Project: Int-E-Grid - Powering Electromobility in Poland and Germany

Bilateral exchange on the integration of electric vehicles into the power system.

Road transport is one of the major causes of greenhouse gas emissions and air pollution both in Poland and Germany. Electromobility is one of the main approaches to reduce these emissions. Poland has therefore proclaimed the "Katowice Partnership for E-Mobility" at the UN Climate Conference in 2018, joined by more than 40 countries, including Germany.

Through the Int-E-Grid project, Poland and Germany are further expanding their cooperation in the field of electromobility. The focus is set on the integration of electric vehicles into the power system. The aim is to exchange know-how and experience, coordinate projects as well as develop recommendations for policymakers. Therefore, the project is intended to contribute to achieving the climate neutrality aimed for in the European Green Deal by 2050.

Measures

  • Creating a wide-ranging platform for stakeholders from both countries, involving ministers, policy makers, local authorities, transmission and distribution system operators (TSO & DSO) as well as representatives of innovative companies (automotive, public transport).
  • Development of policy recommendations for the integration of electromobility into the Polish power system, based on a report commissioned within the project.
  • Development of policy recommendations and best-practice guidelines on the integration of electromobility in sustainable and clean urban transport.

Partners

Int-E-Grid is a joint undertaking of Agora Verkehrswende from Germany and the think tank Forum Energii as well as the Electric Vehicles Promotion Foundation from Poland.

The project is part of the European Climate Initiative (EUKI), a financing instrument by the German Federal Ministry for the Environment, Nature Conservation and Nuclear Safety. Its implementation is supported by the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ). It is the overarching goal of the EUKI to foster climate cooperation within the European Union (EU) in order to mitigate greenhouse gas emissions.
