Towards Decarbonising Transport: Vietnam 2024
A Stocktake on Sectoral Ambition
Preface
This factsheet provides a comprehensive overview on Vietnam’s climate ambition in the transport sector. Home to almost 100 million inhabitants, Vietnam boasts a 3,000 km coastline, extensive internal waterways and more than 3,000 islands. The Vietnamese transport sector has an exceptionally high share of waterborne freight, while motorcycles dominate passenger transport.
Vietnam has pledged to achieve net-zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2050. In the transport sector, decarbonisation measures have primarily focused on supporting the country’s budding electric vehicle industry. Vietnam aims to have 50% share of electric and alternative fuel vehicles across segments by 2030.
